The Long Island Curling Club is the only curling club on Long Island. Established in 2008, we are dedicated to the promotion of the sport of curling on Long Island. Our leagues are held at the Newbridge Arena in Bellmore, NY.
What’s New?
To kick off its 2013 Spring/Summer Season, the Long Island Curling held an Open House on April 26 at the Newbridge Arena in Bellmore. During the Open House, we introduced to the sport of curling to more than 60 participants, demonstrating how to deliver and sweep, along with other basics of the sport. On Friday, May 3, we conducted a Learn to Curl session. Experienced instructors gave a more intensive preview of curling. We worked though all the techniques needed for curling, game strategy, and played a few ends of a real game. Our Spring/Summer League begins on May 10 and runs through the summer.

What is Curling?
Curling is one of the newest medal sports in the Winter Olympics. It can be described as bocce ball or lawn bowling on ice. Curling is often identified by the two sweepers who walk or slide with the stone and sweep the ice in front of the rock to help it travel further and straighter.
The object of the game is to slide, or throw, stones down a 145-foot sheet of ice into a set of concentric circles known as the “house”. Two teams, or rinks, of four members alternate throwing rocks. When all the stones are thrown, the rink with the stone closest to the center of the house, or button, scores points, one for each stone closer to the button than the other rink’s closest stone.
